Not being able to update the service would mean that your user does not
have enough permissions to write out to the registry.

Are you running Sybase Central as a regular user? Does running SC with
"Elevated" privileges allow the error to go away?

Can you start the service via the Services panel? (Start -> Run ->
services.msc)

does not become GA until October 22nd. Support for SQL Anywhere will be
provided once the OS is actually released.

Just hit the same problem.
Do you know if/when Windows 7 support will be added to SQL Anywhere 9 ?

I realize this is an old thread, but just wanted to let you guys know that I successfully did this with Win Server 2012 R2 and Sybase Central / ASA 9 for a program we no longer have support for that we need occasionally. It seemed silly to spend money to upgrade the software and DB server for this program.

The program was running on a Win 2003 server up until now, but with that OS coming to end of life I thought I should find a new solution. All research up until I found this thread indicated that I was going to need to find a solution on a Windows 7 box as Win 2012 server was going to be a no-go. I had already thought of the elevated access and running in compatibility mode, but was still having issues. Setting the OS for "Best Performance" under the advanced settings and getting rid of the visual styles fixed me right up.

7.
You need to turn off "Use visual styles on windows and buttons" in Windows
performance
options located in: Control Panel -> System -> Advanced tab.
